According to the British Postal Service Appointment book, an Edward William East was appointed as a postman in Derby in 1913. Prior to this he was appointed as a postman at Duffield in 1909. On the 1911 Census, Edward William East is recorded as a 28 year old Post Office worker, born in Lower Guiting, Gloucestershire, and residing in Fisher Lane, Duffield, with his wife Kate Elizabeth. It also appears that he had served during the Boer War, being entitled to the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902 (With thanks to members of the Great War Forum for this information).
